            No ads. No tracking. No selling your data. We collect only what's needed to make LLYLI work. Your words belong to you. You can delete everything at any time.
        

Introduction

LLYLI ("Learn the Language You Live In") helps you learn the language of the country you live in. You capture words from daily life, and the app turns them into lasting vocabulary with spaced repetition and real sentence context.

This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, and how we protect it. We keep it straightforward.

Information We Collect

1. Account Information

Email address -- for account creation and authentication
Apple ID -- when using Sign in with Apple (tokenized identifier only)
User ID -- a unique identifier for your account

2. Your Vocabulary

Captured words -- words you add and their translations
Practice sentences -- sentences generated for learning context
Review history -- your answers and progress on vocabulary reviews
Language preferences -- your native and target language selections

3. Usage Data

Session data -- review session timestamps and duration
Progress metrics -- mastery levels, streaks, consecutive correct answers
Learning algorithm data -- how well you know each word and when to review it next
Subscription events -- if you subscribe, we record subscription-related events (e.g. trial start, purchase, expiry) for service management

4. Notification Preferences

Notification settings -- if you enable review reminders, we store your preference locally on your device

How We Use Your Information

Making the App Work

Spaced repetition -- the app schedules reviews based on how well you know each word, so you study less and remember more
Multi-device sync -- your vocabulary and progress sync across your devices
Personalized exercises -- content adapts to your mastery level. Easy words get harder sentences. Difficult words come back sooner.

Translation and Content

OpenAI API -- word translations, example sentences, and quiz options are generated via OpenAI's API through our secure backend. Only individual words and language pairs are sent. No personal data.
Language processing -- AI determines word categories and difficulty levels

Analytics (Minimal)

Usage patterns -- anonymous, aggregated data to improve the app
Error logs -- crash reports to fix bugs (no personal data included)

Data Storage and Security

Cloud (Supabase)

All user data stored securely in Supabase (PostgreSQL)
Encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest
Database access restricted via Row-Level Security -- you can only see your own data

Your Device

Vocabulary and sentences are cached locally for offline use
Protected by iOS device encryption
Review sessions work 100% offline -- no data leaves your phone
Local data is deleted when you delete the app

Your Rights

Your data is yours. Here's what you can do with it.

See Your Data

Everything you've captured and learned is visible in the app's Notebook and Progress tabs.

Delete Your Data

You can delete your account at any time:

Tap the info button (top-right on any tab)
Scroll to "Delete Account"
Confirm deletion

This is permanent and cannot be undone. All your vocabulary, review history, and progress will be permanently deleted from our servers and your device within 30 days.

Export Your Data

EU Users (GDPR)

If you are in the European Union, you have additional rights under GDPR:

Right to Access -- request a copy of your data
Right to Rectification -- correct inaccurate data
Right to Erasure -- delete your data (via in-app deletion)
Right to Data Portability -- export your data in machine-readable format
Right to Object -- object to data processing

Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

We process your data based on:

Contract Performance -- providing the language learning service you signed up for
Legitimate Interest -- improving app functionality and fixing bugs
Consent -- optional features like notifications (you can opt out anytime)

Data Retention

Active accounts -- data retained while your account is active
Deleted accounts -- all data permanently deleted within 30 days
Inactive accounts -- accounts inactive for 2+ years may be archived

Children's Privacy

LLYLI is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, contact us immediately.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page. Your continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
